Exercise No.4

Welcome back.

Alright, I'm gonna be really straight with you, about 80% of you right now should feel like giving up.

About 20% of you right now should feel high on the hyper productivity, hyper capitalist overdrive of getting to do all the things.

So whether you're high or low, welcome to Good Girl Conditioning! Welcome. Because I bet no matter what it is that you wanted, most of the things on your list are things that you're trying to do by yourself that require so much work of you.

Because the moment I ask a woman what her dreams are, she lights up and then she collapses. And why is she collapsing? Because she thinks she has to do it by herself. She thinks she has to earn it. She thinks she has to practice, get a degree, get it perfect. She thinks about all the other things she has to juggle on top of that, how she has to look when she's doing it - it’s Good Girl Conditioning.

And sometimes some of us, that 20% of you who are listening right now who actually got really super psyched and inspired, just knowing yourself, do a little body check and go like this state of hyper achievement, with which I want to attack the path to my desire. How long can I sustain it for? How much fuel do I have?

And this is one of the things that we're taught to do. One of the things that we're taught to do is to make do with what we have. Like in the old days, you were a better candidate for a better marriage, which was your only chance of success, if you could make do, if you didn't ask for much, if you were low maintenance.

So what we do is we go for a drive that's going to require 100 miles of fuel but we only put 50 miles of fuel in our tank. And when we run out halfway through, what do we do? We feel like failures and we self attack instead of asking for 150 miles of fuel. Do you know what I mean?

And what we're looking at here right now, is a portrait of how the nervous system gets jammed up when we're trying to make our dreams come true. So we convince ourselves that they're silly, or frivolous, or that they're just impossible, or I can't deal with it. I can't even deal with tomorrow, I can't even deal with today. Right? So under supported, under resourced, and asking, “Are you kidding me? That's not the pattern I've set, the culture I've created with the people in my life. They all count on me and they all count on me to be okay.”

So that changes now, and it changes now with just a little experiment.

One of the tragedies that's really obvious of Good Girl Conditioning is it'll take all your energy. And it won't source you, it won't nourish you, it won't strengthen you. But there's another far sneakier one. It'll totally limit your imagination about how those things on your list that really need to happen, you know, those things that light you up the most, they'll also light up the world the most.

The most lit up version of you is going to light up the world the most.

Nobody needs another overworked, underpaid, frustrated woman in the world.

This next part, is going to require a little bit of trust.

I'm gonna ask you to take a look at that desire from a completely different lens.

I'd like you to imagine that you're not in your life right now. But you're in the movie of your life. And the character you're playing is not a supporting character. She's not even the main character.

She's the villain.

So don't get me wrong here, I'm going to be asking you to write the kinds of things that you cannot do. Some things will be illegal, some things will be immoral, some things will be not to be touched! But we're going to open that door for a very, very, very specific reason. I'll tell you that reason after we've opened it.

So in this next part, let’s check back into our bodies again.

Now look at that desire, look at that dream, look at that thing that you want. Except now, you are not a Good Girl and you're not you. You’re villain you! You're bad girl you. You're going to do whatever you damn well please.

You know that reason we love villains in movies? Because they say the things nobody else says, they let themselves have what everybody wants but nobody will also let themselves have it. You're that now and you're that now for just a couple of minutes. So for the next few minutes, you're writing “If I were a bad girl…” or “If I were a villain…”

If I were a villain, I would make this happen how? Would you rob a bank? Would you tell them what you really think?

Whatever it is, play, be vicious, be ruthless, be villainous, be playful. And I'll see you back here after you've explored villain you for a little bit.
